Why use a bread machine:

The idea behind a bread machine is that it takes the hands-on work off of your…well, hands! You’ll also have less dishes since you wont need extra bowls and mixers. Everything gets added to the pan of the bread machine and it gets to work for you. I only just recently purchased my bread machine and I’m obsessed. I love that it also does the kneading work on doughs that take more effort and makes things basically effortless!

How to make pumpkin bread in the bread machine:

The first step in making pumpkin bread in a bread machine is to remove the pan from the machine. You don’t want to add the ingredients while the pan is still in the machine because if you spill, it could ruin your whole machine.

You’ll then want to add in the wet ingredients first followed by the dry ingredients in the order they’re listed. This helps prevent excess flour from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Once you add everything to the bread pan, you can add the pan back into the bread machine, select your program (see my tips below) and then press start on the machine and let it do its thing.

The ingredients for the pumpkin bread are:

  • 8 tablespoons melted unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 2 large beaten eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Tips for making this Pumpkin Bread Machine Recipe:

  • If your pan has a lot of scratches or doesn’t have a good non-stick coating, you can spray the bread machine pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Once the paddle stops moving and has finished mixing, quickly take a rubber spatula and scrape down the sides of the bread pan to make sure all of the flour has been incorporated before the baking begins.
  • Check your manual for the settings on YOUR MACHINE. They all have different names for this type of bread. On my machine, it’s the “cake” setting. Basically meaning, it’s NOT a yeast bread. Some machines have it listed as a “sweet quick bread”. On my machine, “quick bread” is for rapid yeast breads so it wont work for this recipe. So it’s very important that you check your machine/manual to find the correct setting for a non-yeast bread.
  • If your machine allows you to choose the crust color for this setting, choose “light”.
  • Be sure to use oven mitts when lifting the pan out of the machine. Even the handles get very hot.
  • If you are worried about your ingredients not being mixed well or if your machine tends to leave dry spots, you can definitely add the ingredients to a large bowl first, mix, then add to the bread machine pan.

Made the pumpkin bread this morning. Smelled so good while baking and was really tough to wait several hours for it to cool before cutting! I followed the recipe with two exceptions – I used all brown sugar as I didn’t have white sugar available and I added 1/2 c of walnuts. It was very tasty and moist, but when I make this again (and I’ll definitely make this again), I will add more than 1 tsp of cinnamon and pumpkin spice, as to me it really needs much more pumpkin flavoring. I didn’t want to go overboard on my first loaf with the spices, but I think more like a tablespoon of each would do better (just my opinion!). Thanks for the recipe.
