These Bang Bang Chicken Skewers are even tastier than they look...if you can imagine that! They have so much flavor, are easily made in the air fryer, and the spice level is adjustable to your liking. The bang bang sauce is also only 3 ingredients!

How to make Bang Bang Chicken Skewers in the air fryer:

The first step to making these chicken skewers is cutting the chicken into cubes. To keep the same cooking time as this recipe, you'll want to cut the chicken into about 1 inch cubes. Try to make them close to the same size so they cook evenly.

Next, you'll want to marinate the chicken. This is such a great way to add so much flavor. You can marinate these for 30 minutes minimum and no longer than 10 hours. This marinade contains soy sauce, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. It makes the chicken so flavorful and juicy!

While the chicken is marinating, you can make the bang bang sauce. This sauce is insanely delicious! It's creamy and melts over the hot chicken coating it with so much flavor!

How to make bang bang sauce:

To make the bang bang sauce, just mix together mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha. (See the recipe card below for measurements.) This recipe has a very mild spice level but you can always increase the sriracha if you like this spicier.

After marinating the chicken, you can thread them onto the skewers. Be sure to SOAK THE SKEWERS for at least 20 minutes if you are using wooden ones. This will prevent them from getting too charred in the air fryer.

After skewering the chicken, reserve half of the sauce for later in a separate bowl. You don't want to get chicken germs in the finishing sauce. With the remaining sauce, coat the chicken on all sides.

Spray the basket of the air fryer with non stick spray and add the chicken. I can only fit 4 skewers In my air fryer (this is the one I have) but you can add in as many as you can fit. Just be sure to leave a little space between each skewer. You can make these in batches. As they finish, just add them to a plate and cover with foil while you cook the rest.

How long to air fry chicken skewers:

You want to make sure you always cook chicken to at least 165 degrees. For these chicken skewers, that usually takes about 15 minutes at 400 degrees. You'll also need to flip them half way through to make sure that each side gets nice and crispy.

As soon as you remove the chicken from the air fryer, and they're super hot, coat them in the sauce that you had set aside. You might think you have too much sauce, but trust me...you'll want to use it all!

You'll notice that the sauce will get nice and glossy and almost melt as it sits on the hot chicken.

Prep Time 15 minutes mins
Cook Time 20 minutes mins
Marinating Time 30 minutes mins
Servings 6 skewers

Equipment

  • Skewers
  • Air fryer
  • Non-stick spray

Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 3 large chicken breasts (cubed)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon each: garlic powder, salt, paprika
  • Parsley or green onion for garnish (optional)

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonaisse
  • ½ cup sweet Thai chili sauce
  • 1-2 teaspoons sriracha (adjust for your spice level)

Instructions

Prep:

  • Cut your chicken into 1' cubes and add the cubes to a bowl.
  • Add the marinade ingredients to the bowl with the chicken and toss to make sure all of the chicken is coated. Place in the fridge and allow the chicken to marinade for at least 30 minutes.
  • While the chicken is marinating, soak the wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes so they won't char in the air fryer. You can also make the sauce while the chicken marinades.

Making the sauce:

  • Combine the mayonnaise, chili sauce, and sriracha to a bowl and mix to combine. Then take about half of the sauce and set it aside in a separate bowl to coat the chicken after cooking.

Cooking the chicken:

  • When the chicken is done marinating, slide the cubes onto your soaked skewers then lay them on a plate. Brush each skewer generously with the bang bang sauce.
  • Spray the basket with non-stick spray then place the chicken skewers in the air fryer.
  • Cook the chicken skewers for about 7-8 minutes per side (14-16 minutes total) at 400℉.
The chicken should be crispy on each side and at least 165°internally.
  • Brush the cooked chicken skewers with the reserved bang bang sauce and serve immediately.
