Homemade Buttermilk Ranch is so much better than any store-bought ranch! It's creamy and tangy, and only takes about 5 minutes to make.

Have you ever asked yourself at a restaurant, "Why is this ranch so good?" Well, it's because a good restaurant typically makes their own ranch. Store-bought ranch isn't made with great ingredients and has a lot of preservatives in it. So making your own isn't only better for you, it's WAY tastier too!

A good homemade ranch base start with mayonnaise, buttermilk, and sometimes sour cream. I chose to make this one without sour cream and keep it simple but it lacks nothing!

Homemade buttermilk ranch ingredients

Ingredients in homemade buttermilk ranch:

  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 and ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of both chopped parsley and dill
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon each of garlic and onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

This recipe is so easy that it barely qualifies as a recipe. All of the ingredients get added to a bowl and whisked together and that's it!

How long can you keep homemade ranch in the fridge?

As long as you started with fresh milk and mayonnaise, homemade ranch can stay in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

I keep mine in a mason jar and I decided to buy plastic lids instead of the metal ones. I wash everything in the dishwasher and the metal ones tend to rust. I also don't can so I don't need to use the metal ones. Here's a link to some other super cute jars that would work!

Prep Time 5 minutes mins
Servings 2 cups

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 and ¼ cup mayonaise (we like Dukes)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1 heaping tablespoon fresh chopped dill
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and whisk until there are no lumps. Enjoy!
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

You can adjust the thickness of the ranch to your liking. For a thicker ranch, just add more mayo or little less buttermilk.

[…] These Blackened Chicken Tenders are spicy, juicy, and only take about 15 minutes from start to finish. The heat can also be adjusted to your preference. These also go perfectly dunked into some homemade ranch dressing! […]
