Add your uncooked white rice to a colander and rinse with water until the water runs clear. (This step is optional but will keep the rice from becoming clumpy and will help prevent an excess of bubbles in the pot.)
Add the uncooked rice, water, oil, and salt to a pot and bring everything to a full rolling boil.
Once boiling, cover the pot, reduce the heat to simmer, and cook for 18 minutes.
After the 18 minutes, remove the pot from the heat (do not uncover) and set it aside for 5 more minutes.
