Split pea soup is my ALL TIME favorite soup and there’s no better way to make it than in the slow cooker! It’s creamy, healthy, and it doesn’t get any easier than throwing everything in a slow cooker!
You can tell just from reading this ingredient list that it’s going to be packed full of flavor!
Here’s what you need to make the slow cooker split pea soup.
- 16 ounces dry split peas
- 3 large carrots
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 3 ribs of celery
- 3 garlic cloves
- 8 ounces diced ham
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups chicken broth
Now, I don’t always do this but sometimes I like to add some fun shaped noodles in the soup to really fill up my kids’ bellies! If you want to add the noodles, just boil them in a separate pot and add them in at the end.

August 30, 2018 at 5:46 pmmy husband loves split pea soup. I usually make it after I serve a ham, so I will keep the ham bone and make stock to make the soup with it!

February 20, 2019 at 10:41 pmDid you use an immersion blender to smooth everything out?

February 21, 2019 at 1:40 pmI did not. As the peas cook, they will break down when you stir it.

October 29, 2019 at 10:50 amCould I possibly cook this on high for half the time?
Coco and Ash
November 4, 2019 at 4:48 pmYes, You could. just keep an eye on it because the peas will tend to cook faster on the bottom of the slow cooker so you’ll have to stir them frequently.

March 26, 2020 at 10:29 amHi Alana, I’ve made this on the stove top many times. Just keep it covered, simmer on low, and stir frequently. When the peas have broken down and are completely soft, it’s done!
